Bioplastics are the eco-friendly biodegradable plastics derived from renewable feedstock such as sugarcane, corn and cellulose. In this recycling process, the end-product of PLA is converted into the Lactic acid monomer. LOOPLA is the name given to the process where LA (lactic acid) is in a closed LOOP. The process can recover around 100% of lactic acid and also take care of contamination. Unlike mechanical recycling, waste material can hold various contaminants. Thermal de-polymerization can recover highly purified lactic acid and this purified Lactic acid can be considered as raw material for PLA production. Other biodegradable plastics such as PHA, biodegradable starch and polyesters are expected to have higher growth rate due to their biodegradable properties. Despite of their high cost, these products are expected to have an impressive CAGR enhancing the overall growth of the market. Even non-biodegradable bioplastics such as Bio-PET, Bio-PE and Bio-PA are more eco-friendly than conventional plastics. These bioplastics does not contain toxic material as conventional bio-based plastics. These bioplastics fix green-house gases and reduce global warming. Therefore, these products are preferred by consumers over conventional petroleum based plastics.
